On Monday, March 15th, Sunset Health hosted a COVID-19 vaccination event for agricultural workers. This event was coordinated with the assistance of the Yuma Fresh Vegetable Association and required pre-registration.
Sunset Health administered the Johnson & Johnson vaccine which was part of Yuma County's vaccine allocation. This one-dose vaccine is ideal for Ag workers as having them return for a second dose would present logistical issues.
Sunset Health said in a press release, "This COVID-19 vaccination event is probably one of the most important events we have done, [because] it is an effort to vaccinate farm workers. Farm workers are a special population because the help feed America."
Agricultural workers are part of the 1B vaccination group which is currently receiving vaccines in other parts of Arizona and the USA.
Judge Manny Figueroa who is the board president for Sunset Health said that he is grateful to the Yuma Fresh Vegetable Association for working with them to coordinate this event and for assisting with obtaining the allocation of the 400 doses.
Dates and locations for similar events will be available soon. For more information of where you can receive a COVID-19 vaccine, visit: www.azdhs.gov or contact Sunset Health at (928) 819-8999.
